The San Joaquin AgFest Junior Livestock and Auction will take place Sunday, June 11 through Saturday, June 17 at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. The 2017 San Joaquin County Fair, meanwhile, will run from Wednesday, June 14 through Sunday, June 18, making for a busy week at the fairgrounds in Stockton.

For the AgFest, all San Joaquin County 4-H and FFA members with projects in the beef, swine, sheep, goats, dairy, rabbits, poultry, turkeys, cavy and dog areas will compete at the show and auction. Members who have vocational projects such as welding, wood, plants and vegetables will also exhibit their projects during the six-day show.

The San Joaquin AgFest Jr. Livestock Show and Auction replaces the San Joaquin County Fair’s livestock show and auction. All of the exhibitors learn to custom feed and humanely raise their large or small livestock projects. During the show all the animals are judged by qualified industry professionals to be determined market ready. Many of the members who raise animals will use the profit for college and trade school education in the future. Some of the members started with one animal and began a breeding program. By the end of their 4-H or FFA career they will have a herd of animals or a flock of birds and possibly a small business.

Admission is free daily before 10 a.m. and parking is $5 per car. The junior show and auction has a website, www.sanjoaquinagfest.org with a list of daily events and livestock shows.

Some of the highlights are: Livestock Costume Contest Thursday, June 15, at 6 p.m.; Farm to Fork Dinner (funds raised will be used for awards) Tuesday, June 13 at 5 p.m.; Master Showmanship (the best showman in each category compete for the Championship and represent the county at the State Fair) Friday, June 16 at 4 p.m.; Livestock Auction of all large and small market animals Saturday, June 17, at 9 a.m.

The show will include 830 4-H and FFA exhibitors, with 1400 large and small animals to be shown.

This year’s edition of the San Joaquin County Fair will run Wednesday through Sunday with live music, the midway with carnival rides and games, specialty acts on the grounds, food, beverages and more.

Hours of the fair are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, June 14 through 18 with adult admission $8, children 6 to 12 $3 and presale ride wristbands available for $20.

Musical performers are scheduled to include Tommy Castro and The Painkillers on Wednesday, June 14; Life in the Fast Lane (songs of the Eagles) on June 15; James Otto on June 16; Skynnyn Lynnyrd on June 17 and closing out the fair will be Metalachi on Sunday, June 18.

Special theme days include Senior and Disability Day on Wednesday, with $5 entry for seniors (65-plus) and those with disabilities form 10 a.m. to noon and Buddy Day, buy one get one free wristbands from noon to 3 p.m.
