Grace Veldstra passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 10, 2017 in Modesto at the age of 94. Grace was born on April 22, 1923 in the Netherlands. Grace and her family immigrated to the United States in 1957, she has been a resident of Escalon ever since.
Grace was a devoted member of Escalon Christian Reformed Church since 1957. She walked closely with the Lord and served him well. God and family were the most important things in her life, she would pray for her children continuously. She was the matriarch of her family, taking excellent care of her children and grandchildren. Caring for her family gave Grace much happiness throughout her life. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and traveling. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother that will be missed forever.
Grace leaves behind her children, Hilda Herman (Mel), Maggie Welte (Bill), Albert John Veldstra (Wanda), Ben Phillip Veldstra (Diane), Steven Edgar Veldstra (Tonya) and Egbert Ray Veldstra (Shirley), along with her 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Grace also leaves behind two brothers and four sisters in the Netherlands. Grace is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, John Veldstra, her daughter, Annette Elly Veldstra and two brothers and one sister.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapels. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, August 18 at 11 a.m. at the Escalon Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Grace’s memory may be made to the Escalon CRC, the Back to God Hour or the Charles Stanley Ministries.
