Nicolaas Rodenburg, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Monday May 7, 2018. He was born in Aarlanderveen, Holland on January 28, 1931. Nicolaas came to the United States in the late ‘50s and settled in the Ripon and Escalon area.
He came with a background of farming, he started in the dairy industry which led to raising replacement stock and growing almonds on the NR Ranch in Ripon and Oakdale. He loved to work with his animals which included chickens, ducks, rabbits, cattle and his bee colony. Nicolaas’ work ethic was extraordinary and on his last day he continued with the caretaking of the animals he loved so much.
He was proud of his achievements and knowing that all he left behind would continue to prosper well into the future. He loved giving and helping others, whether it be through prayer, donation or other form of support. Nicolaas always put the needs of others before his, it was a blessing to have known him and to have been part of his life.
Nicolaas leaves behind several siblings in his native Holland, Hennie Plomp, Wim Rodenburg, Mein Olieman and Piet Rodenburg. He is preceded in death by brothers Jan (John) Rodenburg of Escalon and Adrian Rodenburg of Holland. Local survivors of Nicolaas are his nephew Robert Rodenburg (Paige) of Escalon, niece Lyann Ohland (Jim) of El Centro and his extended family of the Dorrepaal’s of Ripon and Turlock.
