In a junior varsity match against Hughson this past week, the Escalon JV golf girls lost by the slimmest of margins, falling by one stroke. Escalon carded a team score of 228, while Hughson came in at 227.

Leading the way for the JV squad was Ella MacKinnon, shooting a team low of 39 on the day. She was followed by Kamryn Bradley, 42; Ella Adams, 46; Rachel Lau, 50; and Faith Yost, 51.

“Two of the other sophomores did not play. We had some good scores,” noted head coach Kristie Cathcart. “If they keep practicing we will be very competitive over the next few years. JV has one more away match, against Atwater.”

In varsity action this past week, the Lady Cougars traveled to face off with Linden at the par 36 Lockeford Springs course. The Oct. 3 contest saw Escalon take the win, 208-224.

Madison Kindberg shot a 47 to lead the team, with Amanda Rickman coming in at 52, Mikayla Schut at 53. Rounding out the scoring were Mary Adams, 56; Ellie Cunningham and Shelby McCune, 57; and Kara Kennedy with a 68.

Wednesday the girls traveled to the Sierra High Tournament at Manteca Golf Course, a par 72 course.

Full tournament results were not available at press time.

“There were 18 schools. We were the smallest school,” Cathcart said. “Our low score was 90 and our high was 119.”

Keeping up a busy pace, the varsity girls were back on the course Thursday, this time hosting Sonora at the Escalon Golf Course on Oct. 5.

Escalon took the win, 167 to 202.

Kindberg shot a 37, Cunningham carded a 42 and Schut was right behind at 43. McCune came in with a 45 on the day, Adams and Kennedy both carded a 47 on the local course.

The Lady Cougars are looking for a strong finish to the campaign and will hit the links a few more times.

“This week is the last week of league,” said Cathcart. “Two more varsity matches and an away JV match.”
