With runner-up Sac-Joaquin Section honors for both the Escalon High School varsity soccer boys and the varsity wrestlers, it was a successful winter season for the Cougars. The varsity soccer girls also returned to the Division V playoffs, the Lady Cougar wrestling program got a state meet medal performance from Mikayla Vega and several athletes were standouts in the classroom as well.

Athletes, coaches and family members gathered for the Winter Sports Awards Night on Tuesday, March 6 to present honors in basketball, soccer and wrestling.

High School Principal Eric Simoni congratulated the athletes on their achievements in the sports arena and in academics, noting that eight were recognized as Trans-Valley League scholar-athletes, for achieving a high grade point average as well as being major contributors in their individual sports.

For the sports teams, 65 percent of the winter athletes had a 3.0 average or better and 12 achieved a 4.0 or better.

Named as the winter EHS scholar athletes were soccer players Guillermo Alvarez, Dalsin Alves and Armando Gonzalez, basketball players Steven Grossi, Emily McPherrin, Max Nicholas and Priscilla Nowling, as well as dual sport athlete Adela Ley-Han, soccer and girls wrestling.
