When the touring show Journey vs. Foreigner – A Musical Showdown comes to the State Theatre in Modesto on Saturday, July 27, the Gregori (Modesto) High School String Quartet will join the professional musicians on stage to lend some local talent to this homage to two of the world’s top selling rock bands of all time.

The show pits Journey tribute band Journey’s Edge against Foreigner Unauthorized in an all-out musical showdown for rock dominance. The string quartet will perform four songs with the bands.

In this show, these arena rock legends face-off in a battle of bangers and ballads as tributes Journey’s Edge and Foreigner Unauthorized in Journey vs. Foreigner – A Musical Showdown. Journey’s Edge brings the look, sound, feel and energy of one of rock’s most legendary bands.

They engage in a “showdown” of the hits with Fresno-based Foreigner Unauthorized, who offer a faithful rendition of the music and style of Foreigner. They deliver a technically perfect, soulful and memorable show.

The production includes multimedia, period costumes and vintage instruments. The show will perform a seven show residency this December at the Harrah’s Laughlin showroom.

The string quartet members, Gregori High School students Malathi Kalluri, Enzo Velasco, Aiden Rosebrough and Sabrina Clendenin will join the bands for the songs “I Want To Know What Love Is,” “Say You Will,” “Open Arms,” and “Faithfully.”

Quartet members have performed with prestigious ensembles, including the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra, Stanislaus County Honors Orchestra and California Orchestra Directors Association (CODA) Northern California Honors Orchestra.

Members consistently have scored superior ratings at solo and ensemble festivals.

The producers of Journey vs. Foreigner approached Joseph A. Gregori High School Orchestra Director Paul Herrera looking for a talented ensemble of high school students who could hold their own with a rock band in front of an audience. The show commonly reaches out to local high school orchestras, making donations to their school music programs in exchange for student participation.
