Backed by dozens of volunteer helpers and blessed by donations from the community, the Saturday April 19 egg hunt hosted at Lorina’s Edible Garden drew tons of kids looking to collect some candy and maybe a special prize.
Volunteers had spent time in the morning scattering the brightly colored plastic eggs in three different ‘hunting’ areas, with some of the eggs numbered, corresponding with a prize. All the eggs had small candy treats inside. Those finding the numbered eggs were able to turn them in after the hunt to receive their prize, ranging from stuffed animals to formal Easter baskets.
“I’m so grateful to the community, I’m so happy,” owner Lorina Cajias said after watching dozens of young, enthusiastic egg hunters fanning out to collect the treats. “God bless everybody for all you did; we’re so grateful and had a lot of fun.”
Staged in and around The Barn on Enterprise Road in Escalon, the egg hunts were outside and there were vendors both inside and outside, ranging from books to bubble toys, handcrafted jewelry to candles. There was a balloon artist, face painting, and pony rides, all adding to the excitement of the day for youngsters. Lorina’s Edible Garden also had plants and products for sale and there was food for purchase on site.
Cajias said she is also planning some special workshops for kids during the summer, with more information to be released at a later date.
Upcoming events are scheduled, with Mother’s Day at the Barn on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a vendor faire, live music and an optional Mother’s Day lunch ($20, by reservation only).
On June 28, it will be Cars At The Barn, a classic car show, running from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
There will be a vendor fair that day as well, with the farm store and plant nursery also open.
Cajias now offers a ‘Traveling Plants program, and will bring products to a neighborhood gathering, school, club meeting or business. More information is available by contacting Cajias at 209-402-7567.
Lorina’s Edible Garden is at 17397 Enterprise Road, Escalon.
