Modesto gas prices have fallen 4.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.50/gallon as of July 29, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 11.5 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, yet stand 11.0 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto is priced at $3.19 while the most expensive is $3.99, a difference of 80 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state on July 29 was $2.89 while the highest was $5.09, a difference of $2.20/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country on July 29 stood at $1.97/gallon while the most expensive was $5.09, a difference of $3.12/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.72/gallon. The national average is up 1.8 cents per gallon from a month ago, yet stands 12.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

“Average gasoline prices have been on cruise control the last week, falling gently for the second straight week as oil prices remained largely in check as we enter the final month of the summer driving season,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Concerns still abound over the lack of a China/U.S. trade deal as talks get back underway, but by and large, motorists can expect to see little organized movement at the pump in the week ahead, and barring any new situations, we should be able to cruise into the fall months without a major hiccup in prices.”

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.40/gallon, down 6.9 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.47/gallon; Oakland - $3.72, down 2.0 cents per gallon from $3.74; and San Jose - $3.65, down 0.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.66/gallon.
