The area’s Oak Valley Art Society, OVAS, put on its Spring Art Show over the weekend, April 12 and 13. Artwork was displayed at the Escalon Library.
“We had a total of 77 entries offered by 27 total artists,” OVAS President Eveyln Cooper reported. “Our judge was a local from the Escalon area, (artist) David Webster, and he was very knowledgeable and informative.”
Cooper added that artwork was featured in a total of 11 different categories for the show.
Winners were:
Oil & Acrylic: Scapes (Land/City) - Richard Jones – “The Falls”
Oil & Acrylic: Scapes (Sea) - Doug Kolsters – “Day at the Beach”
Oil & Acrylic: Still Life - Jean Marie Grimbleby – “Reflections”
Oil & Acrylic: Portrait - Carol Earle – “Big Daddy”
Watermedia: Jamie Showers – “Two of me in the Dark”
Soft Pastel: Joan Cardoza – “I love my Horse”
Graphics: Gloria Bauguess – “Zebra”
Mixed Media: Richard Jones – “Old West”
Sculpture/3Dimensional/Misc: - Doug Kolsters – “Irises” (Stained Glass)
Photography: - Evelyn Cooper – “Walk on the Beach”
The final category, Cooper said, was a first time one for the OVAS show, and was a ‘Painting over two years old’ with the win going to Gail Shearer for her “Sunset on the Bay” entry.
Named as the “Best in Show” winners were:
Art - Linda Douglas – “38 Special”
Photography - Bob Eriksen – “Lighthouse Field Beach”
Taking home the “People’s Choice” awards were:
Art - Carol Earle – “Big Daddy”
Photography - Evelyn Cooper – “Wild Mustang”
The next regular meeting of the Oak Valley Art Society is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at the Escalon Library, 1540 Second St., beginning at 10:30 a.m.
