Autumn tour hosted by Oakdale Garden Club

Six area gardens will be open for touring on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The annual fundraising event planned by Oakdale Garden Club is the opportunity to tour six gardens in the East Oakdale area from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Ticket/booklets are $25.

The Oakdale Garden Club is a very active group with activities and projects for the community.

Along with developing and managing the Community Garden near the Gladys Lemmons Senior Community Center, members also maintain downtown flower pots, the Cowboy Statue Garden near the Oakdale Cowboy Museum, Veteran’s Garden in Fish Park, Blue Star Memorial & Native Garden at the Oakdale post office, and the Peace Officer Memorial Garden at Valley View Park. Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating high school seniors furthering their education in plant related majors.

The Garden Club meets monthly (except January and July) on the third Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Community Methodist Church social hall, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale. All with an interest in gardening are welcome to attend the meetings and the special Autumn Garden Tour.

Tickets are available from any Garden Club member, locally at A Touché of Flowers (822 W. F St.) and Plant Patience (654 N. Yosemite) along with Morris Nursery, Westurf, and other nurseries in Ripon, Manteca, and Turlock.

Local businesses have generously supported the event with advertisements in the ticket booklet, donations with baskets and silent auction items.
