The recent cornhole tournament to benefit the Escalon High School varsity baseball field “revival project” was staged at Orlando’s Market on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Officials reported a great turnout, with 26 teams competing.
“At one point, there was over 100 people in attendance,” said fundraiser co-coordinator Steve Riesenbeck. “Escalon Cougar gear was available for purchase. People purchased hats, shirts and were able to pre-order sweatshirts.”
He said they sold out of game hats, as well as selling about half their supply of other hats and shirts.
“There was a raffle with some fantastic prizes. We raised just over $6800 in total and are getting much closer to our goal,” Riesenbeck said. “The project is getting under way.”
Work was scheduled to start Monday, Nov. 4 and is expected to be completed in time for the start of the high school baseball season in 2025.
The winners of the tournament, as well as second place received prizes. The top finishers were: first place, David Contreras and Shea Paterson; second place, Kris Mayfield and Patrick Mulry.
