Coming up later this month, the City of Stockton will host a community workshop for the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). The session is set for Wednesday, April 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium, South Hall, 525 N. Center St.
Workshop participants will have an opportunity to learn about the plan development process and explore community data stories about climate issues. Residents from throughout the county are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) development has been funded through a $1 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Grant program and a $650,000 adaptation planning grant from the Governor’s Office of Climate and Land Use Innovations. The CAAP will primarily focus on the City of Stockton, with analysis extending throughout the metropolitan statistical area region, including unincorporated San Joaquin County and the cities of Escalon, Lathrop, Lodi, Manteca, Ripon, and Tracy.
“We can’t take on the entire planet, but we can certainly make a difference right here in our community and in the region,” said Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi. “This is an opportunity for the Stockton Metropolitan Area to develop a shared vision for climate action, improving health and equity and accelerating new economic opportunities.”
The CAAP will serve as a comprehensive update to the 2014 City of Stockton Climate Action Plan. Components of the new plan include an updated greenhouse gas inventory, projections, and reduction measures; a climate vulnerability assessment and adaptation strategies; and an implementation plan.
City officials will establish a broad-based engagement process for the CAAP and will partner with community-based organizations to help encourage involvement from community members throughout the region and equitable community engagement in the planning process.
In addition to workshops, there will be opportunities to participate in a variety of ways, including community meetings, pop-up events, and surveys. It is expected that the CAAP will be completed in Spring 2026.
