The 18-year-old Escalon resident who was shot during an attempted armed robbery of the Family Dollar on Oct. 10 is stable but still in critical condition, said Escalon Police Chief Gus Flores.
The victim, a female employee at Family Dollar on Jackson Avenue, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and the armed assailant then fled the scene. As of Monday, Flores said they are actively following leads on the whereabouts of the suspect.
The victim was behind the counter and police said the suspect was armed with a 9mm semiautomatic pistol; the female employee sustained four gunshot wounds.
The assistant store manager put the call in to the police and after the shots were fired around 7:35 p.m. Oct. 10. Initially, police reported he left the scene in a vehicle but later determined he fled on foot, toward the area of Mitchell and California.
