With a ‘revival’ effort undertaken on the campus of Escalon High School for the varsity baseball field, a dedication ceremony has been scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Weather permitting, that is the day for the first preseason game of the 2025 campaign for the baseball Cougars.
Head coach Gino Franceschetti and a crew of volunteers and supporters worked over the course of several months to put on fundraisers, secure donations and plan for and oversee the field improvements.
The finished product is set to be unveiled at 3:15 p.m., Feb. 11. The ceremony at the new Cougar home field will include honoring of sponsors, recognition of “Escalon’s baseball traditions and coaches” and will also feature the retirement of Jersey number 9, worn by the late Greg Largent, a longtime teacher and coach with the Escalon Unified School District, including several successful seasons as head coach with the varsity baseball program.
After the festivities, the Cougars are scheduled to host Liberty Ranch, with the Hawks coming to town for the preseason opening contest.
