Sub-freezing temperatures are forecast for the region overnight, prompting a freeze warning to be put into effect.
The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued the freeze warning, effective from 10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 through Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7 a.m.
Affected areas include the Carquinez Strait and Delta, Central Sacramento Valley, Mountains Southwestern Shasta County to Western Colusa County, Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley, Northern Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, and Southern Sacramento Valley
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents are urged to take steps to protect tender plants from the cold.
