Both Saturday and Sunday will serve up some activities in the community, with the first weekend of October shaping up to be a busy one in Escalon.

Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, it’s the 32nd annual Citywide Yard Sale Day, with hours for the event set from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The sale day typically draws in yard sale enthusiasts and treasure seekers from the Bay Area, the foothills and everywhere in between. A map featuring addresses of sales – for those residents that signed up and paid the $5 fee to be listed – will be available online at cityofescalon.org beginning Thursday, Oct. 3.

Later on Saturday, join in for the Edible Expo, a benefit for the Escalon Educational Foundation. The Foundation is hosting its third annual expo, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Escalon Community Center. Tickets are available at $40 each. Proceeds help the Foundation provide classroom grants and assist with other needs at Escalon Unified School District sites.

Multiple local restaurants and businesses combine at the Edible Expo to highlight their food and beverage products. Attendees visit the various booths to enjoy sampling the wares. There will also be an opportunity to purchase tickets for raffle drawings, and there will be silent and live auctions during the evening. For tickets, contact April Adams at 209-606-6487 or visit the Escalon Educational Foundation’s Facebook page.

Finally, on Sunday, Oct. 6, kids of all ages are invited to attend Harvest on Main, put on by the Escalon Chamber of Commerce and staged in the city’s Main Street Park. Hours for that event are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the day features pumpkin carving and decorating, a costume contest, decorated classic cars, music, food and more. Homemade costumes are encouraged for the contest.

Chamber officials also have expanded the scope of the event this year to include some additional vendors, giving the harvest a ‘Farmer’s Market’ feel.
