August will bring an evening of dinner and dessert, with both the Escalon United Methodist Church and the Escalon American Legion Post serving up the eats.

The date is Saturday, Aug. 17 and at the church, 2000 Jackson Ave., corner of Highway 120 and Brayton, the annual ice cream social will be offered.

There will be a variety of homemade ice creams – including some sugar free options and some of the traditional favorites – along with a selection of brownies, cookies, pie slices and more.

Provided at no cost, donations are accepted and church members provide the homemade treats as part of a ‘farewell to summer’ gathering.

Hours for the social are 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; all are welcome to attend.

That Saturday will also see the Escalon American Legion Gustafson-Thompson Post 263 host a potluck dinner, with tri-tip and chicken as the main course. There will be salads, side dishes, desserts and beverages as well; the Post members put on the dinners as a thank you to community members for their continued support. Donations are accepted but not required.

The meal is served at the Post rooms, 1531 Second St., starting at 5 p.m.
