Motorists are being advised to avoid the area of the Yosemite Avenue – Highway 120 railroad crossing in Escalon following a mid-morning train vs. pedestrian collision.
Officials said the incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, with a subject crossing the tracks on the south side of the highway. The unidentified victim was struck by a westbound freight train; authorities said the coroner was requested to the scene.
It was expected that the investigation would take a few hours and the freight train was stopped at the location, blocking traffic. A post by the Escalon Consolidated Fire Protection District about noon today indicated the closure could last for a couple more hours.
