If you have gently used Halloween costumes taking up space around the house, turn them in at the Escalon Library and take part in the upcoming Costume Swap.
Residents can drop off a clean, like-new costume by Thursday, Oct. 5 and get a voucher to pick out a ‘new to you’ costume at the swap, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 12.
Sought are costumes in good condition for kids and teens, with costumes accepted for kids from birth to high school. Costumes should be in good to excellent condition with no rips, tears or stains, unless they belong as part of the costume. They should be in clean and wearable condition, such as having no broken zippers or missing buttons.
Wigs and used/opened make up are not being accepted.
Accessories are welcome but those alone do not qualify for a costume swap voucher; a full costume is required to get a voucher.
The Costume Swap on Thursday, Oct. 12 will run from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and is for voucher holders only. Bring your voucher to the library on that day and time and pick out a costume.
If you don’t have a costume to donate, you can stop by the library on Friday, Oct. 13 during regular hours to see if there are extra costumes to choose from.
Officials said this is the first time the Escalon Library is hosting a costume swap and they are accepting donations through Oct. 5, hoping to get a good selection of costumes for the swap. For additional information, contact library staff at 209-838-2494.
The upcoming Costume Swap is just one of the events scheduled at the local branch; Escalon firefighters will be visiting on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 10:30 a.m. for a special storytime session. This is a toddler/preschool storytime and runs for roughly half an hour to 45 minutes.
Also, the first meeting of the library’s Student Garden Club is set for Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 3:30 pm. to 5 p.m.; it is open to students in second through eighth grades.
Topics will include Winter and Spring gardens, wormeries and potatoes. Members of the club will be planting and maintaining the garden bed in front of the library and will also explore how worms help the soil, making wormeries for the library and later for student gardens. Participants will also have the opportunity to research various containers that can be utilized to grow potatoes and experiment by growing potatoes in a few of the container options. In the spring, club members will harvest their crop, cook the harvested potatoes and eat them.
The Escalon Library is at 1540 Second Street.
