Escalon city officials have announced the cancellation of the city’s recreational Little League youth baseball and softball games through the end of March. Practices for teams are also being put on hold.
The move comes as a direct response to the ongoing coronavirus threat, following the recommendation of the state health department in limiting gatherings of 250 or more people.
The planned Thursday, March 19 Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner put on by the Lions Club at the Escalon Community Center has been cancelled, as has the Senior Fun Bunch gathering that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 18. Also, the Escalon American Legion Post 263 third Saturday of the month dinner, set for March 21, has been cancelled and officials expect to resume in April; stay tuned for additional developments with the April 18 gathering.
Officials said the barbecue area at the Community Center Park will remain open at this time, as the area does not accommodate a crowd as large as 250. Public Works crews also on Friday did some deep cleaning at the Community Center and in all city parks as a preventative measure.
