Mark the calendar for Leap Day – Saturday, Feb. 29 – and get ready to celebrate 100 years of Escalon High School.

The 100 Year Celebration Committee is putting together a number of special events, commemorating a century of Cougar pride.

Among the events during the day, not part of the 100 years but still in support of the school district, are the annual Color Run kicking things off at El Portal Middle School, followed by a varsity baseball game against Calaveras at EHS beginning at 11 a.m.

The actual 100-Year Celebration runs from noon until 3 p.m. in the Escalon High School Quad/Gym area and there will be an historic display set up in the gym – EHS Through the Decades – along with alumni/current choir and alumni/current cheer performances planned as well. A 100 year rally will kick off at 2 p.m. with notable alumni being lined up to speak.

Among the speakers scheduled to take part in the event so far are Bob Wallace, Jerry Barton and Gus Arzac.

EHS Leadership Advisor Sara Villines said her students are also working on interviewing multi-generational EHS students “to speak about the impact EHS has had on them.”

Special 100 year commemorative T-shirts will be for sale, there will be a variety of activities and food available in the quad area during the celebration and all are invited to attend and show school spirit by wearing purple and gold.
