Escalon’s Ace Hardware, at 3360 McHenry Ave., is serving as the local collection site for items in Operation Creekside. The effort, spearheaded out of Discovery Bay, is designed to collect items to send to troops serving overseas.

Local resident can take donations to the local Ace Hardware through Friday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m.

Suggested items to donate include all kinds of nuts, including peanuts, almonds, pistachios and more; granola bars, fruit bars, energy bars, powdered drink mixes in bottled water size packages, from Gatorade, Propel, etc.

Also, beef jerky or slim jims, sunflower seeds, gum, fruit snacks and, an especially sought after item by the troops, Pop Tarts.
