Average gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 2.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.59/gallon on March 3, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 40.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 6.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.89/gallon while the most expensive was $5.19, a difference of $1.30/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.69 while the highest was $6.79, a difference of $3.10/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.04/gallon on March 3. The national average is down 4.7 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 29.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
The national average price of diesel has decreased 1.9 cents in the last week and stands at $3.62 per gallon.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto price of $4.70 per gallon was recorded on March 3, 2022 and the highest U.S. average price of $3.76 per gallon was also in 2022. Lowest price in Modesto on March 3 was the $2.16 per gallon price in 2016; lowest U.S. average price of $1.80 per gallon was recorded on March 3, 2016.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.51/gallon, down 10.5 cents from last week’s $4.61; Oakland - $4.84, down 7.9 cents per gallon from $4.92; and San Jose - $4.77/gallon, down 10.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.88/gallon.
“Gasoline prices in the U.S. have edged slightly lower over the past week, even as geopolitical tensions intensify,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “However, nearly every year sees a seasonal spring increase, which could eventually push prices higher ahead of summer.”
