A Farmington man was taken into custody in Calaveras County after leading San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies on a pursuit late last week.
According to the sheriff’s department report, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle in the East Stockton area for traffic violations, but the rider fled. Later identified as Shawn Melcher, 46, of Farmington, he led the deputies on a pursuit.
Authorities said the pursuit lasted 35 minutes and traveled 54 miles. It ended in Calaveras County, where Melcher was safely taken into custody. He was booked for felony evading and multiple traffic violations. His motorcycle was impounded.
Melcher was booked on Friday, June 2 following his arrest and the list of charges included the felony evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety, misdemeanor counts of obstructing/resisting a public officer, misdemeanor driving with a license suspected for drunk driving, and the vehicle code infractions of failure to provide a peace officer evidence of financial responsibility and no evidence of current registration.
He was booked on $110,500 bail and was due for an appearance in court on June 6 at 1:30 p.m.
