Postseason begins for flag football, volleyball girls
Cougars

Tuesday evening, Oct. 29 will see a couple of first round Sac-Joaquin Section playoff games for Escalon teams.

The Lady Cougars flag football squad, which ended in a three-way tie for the Trans-Valley League championship, will host the Foresthill Wildfires in a 6 p.m. game at Engel Field.

The game is in Division 4 and this marks the second straight season the flag football girls have been able to host a first-round playoff game. It is also just their second season playing the sport.

Escalon’s Lady Cougars earned the number five seed, giving them the home playoff game, matched up against the number 12 seed Foresthill team. Escalon has a 12-10 overall record coming in while Foresthill is at 11-10.

A win would see Escalon move on to play on Halloween night, Oct. 31 in the quarterfinals, against either Sacramento Adventist or Sonora. It would be a home game either way, though, explained Escalon Athletic Director Andrew Beam, as Sacramento Adventist does not have a home field and would travel here. Sonora is a lower seed than Escalon and would also have to be on the road, coming to play in Escalon.

And while flag football is going on outside Tuesday evening, the varsity Escalon Lady Cougars volleyball team will be hosting number 11 Placer in the EHS gym for a first round Division 3 playoff game, also with a 6 p.m. start time. Escalon comes in with the number 6 seed and looks to get started off on the right foot in the postseason.

“We will continue to work on serve receive and staying consistent,” head coach Shay Beam said of heading into the playoffs.

A win on Tuesday night would put the varsity volleyball girls into the quarterfinal round against the winner of the number 3 Roseville-number 14 Center first round match up. The Lady Cougars would be heading to Roseville, which has the higher seed, or hosting Center.
