Local residents with a little time to spare and looking to make a difference in the community are invited to attend a ‘Prospective Volunteers Open House’ on Sunday, March 16.
The event will be hosted at the Nature Center, Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park in Stockton. Those interested in learning more about this opportunity can stop by the Nature Center anytime from noon to 4 p.m.
This is the perfect way to enjoy nature and share your enthusiasm with others. Come learn how you can volunteer; no experience necessary, as training will be provided.
Those planning to attend the March 16 program are reminded there is a $6 cash parking fee at Oak Grove and pets are not allowed. There will be a second Open House on Sunday, May 18.
Also, on the third Sunday of the month, with the next two programs set for March 16 and May 18, San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the Oak Grove Nature Center, present a Native Plant Garden and Trail event. Attendees will meet at the Nature Center at 1 p.m.
Join in for an easy, quarter-mile walk on the Native Plant Trail. Those taking part will visit the replica of a Plains Miwok/Northern Valley Yokuts village and hear stories of native California trees, shrubs, and flowers plus their historic and modern-day uses.
Each walk is a little different, due to what’s blooming and while the trail is not “officially” accessible, park officials said it is maintained so some scooters, wheelchairs and strollers can access the trail.
This is a free event and no reservations are required, but there is a $6 cash parking fee. No pets allowed. Severe weather cancels the event, so those planning to attend are advised to check the Nature Center Facebook for updates.
