The first days of June will bring the first triple digit temperatures of the year.

National Weather Service forecasters in Sacramento have issued an excessive heat watch, which will be in effect from Tuesday morning, June 4 through Thursday evening, June 6.

Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures of 95 to 107 are possible, constituting a widespread major heat risk. Limited overnight relief is anticipated, with low temperatures dropping only into the 60s to mid-70s.

Affected areas include: Carquinez Strait and Delta, Central Sacramento Valley, Motherlode, Mountains of Southwestern Shasta County to Western Colusa County, Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley, Northern Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, Shasta Lake Area/Northern Shasta County, and Southern Sacramento Valley.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Forecasters indicate that the hottest temperatures are expected Wednesday, June 5. Area waterways will continue to run cold and fast, creating dangerous conditions for those seeking relief in rivers and lakes.

Residents can take some precautionary measures: drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
