The final quarter of the year, 2020, brought a major change to the business landscape in Escalon.
Longtime business owner, Tina Roca, moved into semi-retirement and closed the doors to her Hair Designs By Tina salon in late October.
Both Tina and husband Gus said they have appreciated all of the 40 years they have been open.
It was in March of 1981, that Gus and Tina Roca decided that they wanted to own a beauty salon. After working in many hair salons, Tina decided that she was ready to run her own shop. With two young daughters, she knew that this would be tricky but with the support of Gus and her in-laws and parents, she was certain that she could do it … and she did. With her husband Gus doing his part of behind the doors work, they have run the business “Hair Designs By Tina” for almost 40 years in the community of Escalon. Over the years, Tina has contributed to local charities, fundraisers and children’s sport teams. There have been many customers over the years and some have continued coming with their children and grandchildren.
Tina has always been welcoming to everyone that walks through her doors and has made her customers feel like an extended family. Her compassion and love for her skill have made her business last almost 40 years. She has truly appreciated working with all the ladies that have come and gone. Tina has always done her best to accommodate her customers, six days a week sometimes working 10-hour days. Although she is semi-retiring, those who know her are aware that she is not done completely.
From doing bride’s hair and make-up, mothers of the brides, prom, graduations, picture days, first days of school to holiday hair do’s, the ladies at Hair Designs By Tina have done it all. Hair-cuts, coloring hair, styling, perms, highlights, waxing, manicures, pedicures, and make-up. This full service salon has accomplished so much in its time.
The shop staff included Tina, her daughter Melanie Mireles, Rachel Esparza and Pam Elliot.
Tina has spent the last 40 years serving the community of Escalon with her abilities and those of the other ladies that have worked for and with her. You can now find these ladies at Rachel’s Shear Beauty in town, where they will continue their tradition of service.
