Though it was a sunny day, there was also a bit of wind so there was somewhat of a chill in the air.

That made it the perfect time to stop by the Farmington United Methodist Church to take in the Soup Saturday served up on April 5.

“This is put on by the EPIC group but it is fundraising for the church,” said Crystal Moos, who helped coordinate the luncheon. “We have some revitalization projects that we’re doing and this is to help with that.”

The EPIC (Everything’s Possible In Christ) women’s group meets regularly, added Moos.

Every Wednesday at 10 a.m., the women’s group meets in the Sunday School room at the church on Elm Street in Farmington.

Moos said they enjoy fellowship and conversation, and often go out for breakfast or lunch as part of the meeting.

“Basically, it’s just a gal’s gathering and they support each other through Christ,” Moos explained.

The group put on the Soup Saturday and the meal featured a variety of different homemade soups, bread, cake and beverages, with soup served in a bread bowl offered at a slightly higher charge.

Varieties to choose from during the April lunch were Dutch meatball, chicken noodle, split pea, and cream of broccoli soups, clam chowder and chili.

Diners were enjoying both the choices and the chance to socialize while dining. Donations of canned goods were also accepted at the door, luncheon attendees receiving a dollar off their meal for the donation.

“The food items that are being collected go towards the Farmington community and also to the Ministerial Association in Escalon,” Moos said of benefitting local food pantries.

She said the EPIC group has also supported the students at Farmington Elementary School.

“We did help by collecting school supplies, whatever they needed there,” Moos said.

This was the second Soup Saturday put on by the group and, based on the reception, it’s something they likely will continue.
