The Escalon Sunrise Rotary Club kicked off Super Bowl Sunday with its traditional made-to-order omelet breakfast. The community gathered together to celebrate not only the day of the game, but also to enjoy togetherness with members of the club and other area residents.

Hosted each year as a way to fundraise for scholarships for Escalon High School seniors and other Rotary Club projects that benefit the community, this breakfast has become a beloved event for Escalon.

Staged in the Escalon High School cafeteria on the morning of the Super Bowl, breakfast was served on Feb. 9 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Shawn Lenci, a breakfast attendee, had only positive things to say about this particular event and the Rotary Club as a whole.

“Escalon Rotary did a fantastic job as usual. We appreciate all that they’ve done for our community,” Lenci stated.

Another attendee shared their appreciation for not only the event, but the people and the menu.

“The food tastes wonderful and the people match the taste of the food,” the attendee noted.

Cindy Moreno, a volunteer, helped out at the breakfast fundraiser by making omelets. This menu item is the centerpiece of the ongoing tradition; the omelets were made-to-order, as there were many fillings to choose from.

“It’s just a fun community event. We get to see everyone and enjoy the people as well as (making) the omelets,” Moreno stated.

While the omelets were considered the star of the show, there were other breakfast items including biscuits and gravy, a number of different pastries, fruit, coffee and orange juice also served.

The annual Super Bowl breakfast was not just about good food, however. Additional funds were raised through the sale of tickets for a number of raffle drawings as well. The drawings added an extra layer of fun to the event while still motivating people to participate in the fundraising efforts. There were many prizes to win ranging from extravagant baskets to gift cards, all generously donated by community businesses and local residents.

Whether you’re a die-hard football fan or simply love community and omelets, attendees agreed the Escalon Sunrise Rotary Club Super Bowl breakfast was definitely a touchdown.
