Non-profit group Escalon Strong – which will mark its second anniversary as an organization in April – is hosting a fundraiser for its weekly food distribution program.
Now officially known as “The Giving Pantry,” the effort is hosted at the Escalon Community Center each Thursday at 1 p.m., providing food to an estimated 300 families throughout the Escalon and Farmington areas.
On Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23, Escalon Strong will host a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, at 2316 Spring Dr., Escalon. All proceeds will go to the food recovery program to continue offering this free ‘giving pantry’ for the community.
The distribution provides about 1,000 pounds of food per week; there are no income or age requirements to receive the food. Sherry Hill serves as coordinator for the program.
Other ongoing programs for Escalon Strong include the Community Garden, at 2149 Jackson, with boxes still available for individuals and families to rent.
There will also be an opportunity to support Escalon Strong by attending a family baseball night with the Stockton Ports as they host the Modesto Nuts. Game time is 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. The park opens at 6:05 p.m.; tickets are $13 for field box seats, which is a $2 savings over the regular price. Escalon Strong will receive $5 per ticket. Pre-orders only; there will be first pitch and on field festivities. To order discounted tickets, contact Michelle at 209-505-4071; deadline to order tickers is Thursday, April 4.
A scooter donation program has started as well, with Escalon Strong receiving a grant to purchase more than two dozen electric mobility scooters. They will be distributed to individuals who qualify and are in need.
Leading the Escalon Strong team are President Andy Hagan, Vice President Sara Hagan, Treasurer Cindy Byrd and Secretary Morgan Gregg.
