Start the New Year on a positive note, taking the opportunity to join others in an easy, reflective walk. The ‘Poe-Tree and Music on the Trail’ event is being offered on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Nature Center, Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park. The park is at 4520 West Eight-Mile Road, Stockton.

Bring a favorite poem or two to share, perhaps nature-inspired, as well as an easy to carry musical instrument to play in the Valley Oak Woodland. Suggestions are flutes, recorders and even hand-pans. Bohemian garb is also encouraged, though not required.

There is a $6 cash parking fee at the park but the event itself is free and no registration is required. Severe weather cancels the event; check the Facebook page for Oak Grove Nature Center for updates.
