National Weather Service forecasters in Sacramento have issued a pair of weather advisories, one for wind and one for potential flooding.
The wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 and impacts the Carquinez Strait and Delta, Motherlode, Northern San Joaquin Valley, and Southern Sacramento Valley.
Southeast winds 20 to 30 mph are forecast with gusts up to 50 mph expected.
Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
Winds this strong can also make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
Also, a flood watch will be in effect until Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 4 a.m.
A portion of northern California, including the Carquinez Strait and Delta, Central Sacramento Valley, Motherlode, Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley, Northern Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley, Southern Sacramento Valley, West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada and Western Plumas County/Lassen Park are in the watch area.
Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.
Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected throughout the day and overnight into Wednesday with additional totals 2 to 3 inches in the Valley, 3 to 5 inches in the foothills, and 3 to 7 inches in the mountains below 5500 feet. Heaviest period of rain will be Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Residents should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
