The Turlock/Modesto Branch and the Oakdale/Riverbank/Escalon Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will celebrate Women’s History Month with a special event honoring the achievements of the four female mayors in Stanislaus County.
The program, which will recognize and celebrate the contributions of women in public service, will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Turlock Library Community Room.
This will bring together members and local leaders to highlight the trailblazing accomplishments of women in leadership roles across Stanislaus County. The four women being honored are key figures in the local government who have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations of female leaders. The event will include a program featuring remarks from the mayors, reflections on their journeys to public office, and open discussions on the importance of women’s voices in civic leadership.
“We are thrilled to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of these remarkable women who have dedicated their careers to public service and the betterment of our communities,” said Wanda Bonnell, AAUW President of the Turlock/Modesto Branch. “This Women’s History Month, we shine a light on their leadership, resilience, and commitment to making a difference.”
Featured during the program will be Oakdale Mayor Cherilyn Bairos, Riverbank Mayor Rachel Hernandez, Modesto Mayor Sue Zwhalen and Turlock Mayor Amy Bublak.
No cost to attend, the program is open to the public and will be hosted at the Turlock Library Community Room, 550 N. Minaret Ave., Turlock.
In addition to honoring the mayors, the event will provide an opportunity for networking and encouraging young women to pursue leadership roles in their communities. This celebration aligns with the AAUW’s mission to advocate, for gender equity, education and the advancement of women.
The American Association of University Women is a nationwide organization that advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.
