Anita Wilson Hewitt Brown, 98, died on Monday, March 12 in the Alexander Cohen Hospice House.
She was born on Jan. 2, 1914 in Alturas, California.
Mrs. Brown worked for Stanislaus County Health Department until retirement. She was a proud member of the Escalon United Methodist Church and also of the Order of the Eastern Star (58 years). She was also a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, and of the Squarenaders Square Dance Club for several years. She enjoyed volunteering and serving the Senior Citizen meals in Escalon. She absolutely loved traveling all across the United States by motor home, as well as the cherished moments she spent outdoors.
Survivors include her son, Jim Hewitt from Dallas, Texas and her stepson, Curtis Brown (Anna) from Big Pine Key, Florida; grandchildren Walter Shivar, Curtis Shivar, Julia Edmiston, all of Modesto, Martha Alexander of Rexford Montana, Andy Brown, Bobby Brown, Marsha Brown, and Kirby Brown, all of Florida; sister, Thelma Burk of Reedville, Virginia; 15 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Julius Lynn Brown; her parents Walter and Beulah Wilson; her step-daughter Jacquelyn Knight and her daughter-in-law, Coralie Hewitt.
Visitation was March 16 with a graveside service on Saturday, March 17 at Burwood Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at Escalon United Methodist Church.
Deegan Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
