Amelia Esther (Fiori) Payne passed away peacefully on July 19, 2021 in Modesto at the age of 82. Esther was born on April 20, 1939 in Escalon, California to parents John and Serafina Fiori and has been a lifelong resident of Escalon.
Esther worked for 35 years as a grocery clerk for Big Boy Market in Escalon. She was a past president of the Young Ladies Institute and a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Esther also enjoyed traveling with her husband Jim.
Esther leaves behind her husband of 62 years, James Payne, two grandchildren and her sisters, Mary Anne Adams and Elvera Lucas. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Alicia Sanderson.
Deegan Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the Payne family. A mass is scheduled for Thursday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church followed by a private interment at Burwood Cemetery.
