Herbert Emmett Switzer peacefully passed away June 30, 2020 at the age of 89 with his loving wife and family by his side. Herbert was born August 15, 1930 in Sterling, New York to Emmett and Edith Switzer, and was one of 10 children.
At the age of 17, Herbert enlisted in the United States Army. During his 21-year career with the Army, he was with 11th Airborne at Fort Campbell, KY and an Instructor of Cadets at West Point, NY. He served in the Korean War, Vietnam War and two tours in Germany. On July 31, 1968, Herbert retired from the United States Army. After retiring, Herbert enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, but his main passions were his cutting horses and herding cattle at Brooke’s Ranch.
Herbert leaves behind his loving wife of 69 years, Marilyn, his children; Ritchie Switzer (HyeChung) of TX, Kenny Switzer of OK, Faye Cogar of Concord, Jackie Skov (Steve) of Escalon and David Switzer (Kathy) of SD, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His siblings; Barb, Gertie, Sharon, Janice, Billy and Sandy. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ella, Beatrice and Paul.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapel. A private family graveside service will be held at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery July 15, 2020.
