John G. Bellino, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2008 with his family by his side.
He was born in Bitritto, Italy on June 8, 1917 and immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he returned to Italy to marry Marianna Alberga in 1947. A year later, he and his wife moved to New York City where they lived for five years and had three children. In 1953, the couple moved their family to California.
Mr. Bellino farmed in Escalon for over 50 years. He was a passionate gardener and had Italian vegetables and herbs flourishing all around his home year 'round. He loved farming and maintained his peach and almond orchards for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marianna Bellino; his children, Laura Bellino of Loomis, Nick Bellino of Danville and Marie Bellino of Manteca.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, three brothers and two sisters.
A mass was held at St. Patrick's Church in Escalon on Friday, June 20. Burial followed at St. John's Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to St. Patrick's Building Fund in lieu of flowers.
