John Gilbert, born on April 30, 1944, passed away on September 8, 2024, at the age of 80 in Newport, Oregon. John was a beloved husband, father, and community member known for his vibrant personality and goofy humor that brought joy to those around him.

John graduated from Oakdale High School before continuing his education at California Polytechnic in San Luis Obispo. He served honorably in the Army for two years, specializing in communications, which laid the groundwork for his lifelong commitment to connecting with and supporting others.

Professionally, John dedicated many years to the A.L. Gilbert Company in Oakdale, CA, where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie. John was also a devout member of Saron Lutheran Church in Escalon, California, and later at Atonement Lutheran in Newport, Oregon, where he was involved in church activities.

His personal life was enriched by his loving family, including his wife Meredith Gilbert; son Barry Focha; daughters Paige (Robert) Rodenburg and Morgan Gilbert (Mike Byrne); and his cherished grandchildren, Ashton and Camryn Rodenburg and Kayden Vielhauer. John was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Focha.

John’s hobbies included traveling, staying up to date on politics, and spending time at the beach, reflecting his love for exploration and staying connected with the world.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate John’s life will be held at Eureka Cemetery in Newport, Oregon, on September 13, 2024 at 1 p.m.

His life and laughter have left a lasting imprint on his family and community, and he will be deeply missed.
