Robert (Bob) Cannon, 77, of Escalon died Thursday, March 4 at Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento.
Born in Greeley, Colorado, he was raised in Wyoming until the age of 16 when he enlisted in the United States Navy.
After serving his tour of duty as a sailor in WWII, he met and married the love of his life, Joan, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Cannon lived in Escalon for 37 years. He had many occupations during his life, including owning his own trucking and painting business, as well as driving for many Valley businesses. He also volunteered for many local functions including FFA, Boy Scouts, 4-H leader, Fair Booster and was a distinguished member of the 35-Gallon Club at Delta Blood Bank. He also met daily with a group of friends and colleagues at the local Donut Shack to discuss community affairs and was proud to be known as the 'white-haired old goat' among the Donut Shack Gang.
A member of the Creative Life Science Center, he donated numerous hours to the organization.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Robert and Karen Cannon, daughter Laurie Cannon and daughter-in-law Candy Cannon, all of Escalon; brother, George Cannon of Sacramento; grandchildren, Sarah Cannon and Amy Cannon of Seattle, Jennifer Cannon and Scott Cannon of Escalon; great-grandchildren Cassidy Bush of Seattle and William Delack of Montana.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan in 2000 and one son, Bill Cannon in 1980.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 11, 2 p.m. at Farmington Cemetery, 5225 So. Escalon-Bellota Road. No visitation. Interment will be at the cemetery.
