Rosalie Ann Sand, 70, passed away recently and services have been held.
She was born Jan. 24, 1941 in Stockton, California, the daughter of Arthur and Lida Rossetti. The first six years of her life she lived in Valley Home, California, where her father owned and operated a bar. In 1947 she moved with her family to Escalon where her family built and operated a grocery store, bar, barbershop, and gas station called Rossetti's Corner. She graduated from Escalon High in 1958.
Following school, she worked 24 years at various grocery stores in Manteca and Modesto before taking over day to day operations of the family business, Rossetti's Market, which was operated by the Rossetti family for over 60 years. Rosalie retired in 2006.
She loved cooking for her grandchildren and family. She was an avid Sacramento Kings fan and enjoyed watching the San Francisco Giants. A hard worker all her life, she seldom took days off from the store except to see her grandchildren's sporting events and activities. She was known for her tough exterior, generosity and soft heart.
Survivors include her son Vince Sand; grandchildren Lisa and Scott Sand; her brother Arthur Rossetti, Jr.; and other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lida Rossetti, and her son Mark Sand.
Arrangements were entrusted to Deegan Funeral Chapel. A graveside service was held at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Escalon on Friday, Sept. 30.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356. There is an online guest book for you to share your memories and condolences at www.deeganfuneralchapels.com
