Too much government intrusion

Dear Editor,

Government to the rescue again. It is now protecting older adults from having a good time listening to the type of music they prefer in a safe, natural setting. Between Escalon and Ripon sits Lucca Winery. It has a wine tasting room to sell its wares. For the last nine years Lucca has presented four summer concerts a year in his backyard with a professional sound stage and lighting setup, lawn seating and food and drink available. All profits go to buy musical instruments for underprivileged kids. About 300 to 400 people, mostly with gray hair, would come and sit on four summer nights at this place far from the road, far from any neighbors and in the middle of a peach orchard and vineyards to enjoy acts that us older folks like. It even had indoor bathrooms with actual plumbing! We saw Big Bang Beat which does all music from the ‘70s and ‘80s, tribute bands to Foreigner and Journey. The last concert ever will feature the Three Queens of Soul, tributes to Aretha, Tina Turner and Diana Ross. However, the wonderful unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats from San Joaquin County have decided that problems must exist and have created new regulations making it impossible to carry on. This will also affect the concerts at the wineries in El Campo and on the Delta too. It seems like the only places they want outdoor concerts to take place are those sponsored by cities.

I try to avoid politics but I hate government. It’s a necessary evil but never forget it’s evil. Like any human endeavor no matter how good an organization starts out it will eventually become corrupt, contemptible and attract power hungry individuals to it who will always find a way to exercise more power, needed or not. This is a perfect example.
