Escalon Babe Ruth All-Stars 10U softball traveled to Reno for the 2009 Pacific Southwest Regional Babe Ruth Softball Tournament.
The Escalon girls began game one with an impressive 10-2 win over Lodi Extreme. Natalie Arnold lead the way going 2-for-2 and scoring two runs while pitching two innings, giving up one run with five strikeouts. Marisol Diaz-Morales was 2-for-2 with four RBI. Allie Panero was 2-for-2 with two runs and finished the final three innings pitching.
Game two, Escalon was defeated by Ripon 6-2. A tight 2-1 game until the fourth inning when Ripon scored four runs, the Ripon team held Escalon to only two singles, one each by Kendelle Messersmith and Kylee Irwin-Paz. Saturday morning Escalon began a new day with a 13-0 mercy rule win over Concord 2. Kendelle Messersmith lead the way going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Taylor Harris and Marisol Diaz-Morales had two hits apiece with two runs and two RBI. Jaden Scott had a single with two runs scored. Natalie Arnold pitched two innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts.
Game four was a hard fought game won by Escalon 5-2 over Reno. Marisol Diaz-Morales continued her hot hitting, going 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. Kendelle Messersmith was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Kylee Irwin-Paz was 2-for-2 and Natalie Arnold had a double. Arnold also pitched three innings giving up two runs on one hit and nine strikeouts. Allie Panero pitched the final two innings giving up no runs.
Escalon lost the final game Saturday night 13-3 to Concord Glory. Concord scored seven runs in the first inning. They held Escalon to only three runs on four hits. Kendelle Messersmith continued her hot hitting going 2-for-2 with a triple. Taylor Harris hit a triple and scored a run, and Allie Panero had a single and run scored.
Escalon Babe Ruth 10U finished pool play with three wins and two losses. Only the top four teams qualified for the championship single elimination bracket play on Sunday. Escalon was the three seed and played Ripon the two seed, with the winner advancing to the championship. Escalon avenged an earlier loss to Ripon with an impressive 8-1 win. Escalon was lead by Natalie Arnold with three innings of a no-hit ball with seven strikeouts. Allie Panero threw the final three innings giving up only one run and was 2-for-3 from the plate with two runs. Marisol Diaz-Morales hit a home run with three RBI. Kendelle Messersmith had a triple with two RBI. Sierra Hernandez had a single with two RBI and runs.
