In a special ceremony, San Joaquin County District 5 Supervisor Robert Rickman welcomed the Escalon High School Varsity Football and Girls Varsity Basketball team captains to the Board chambers on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024 to honor their commitment to excellence and championship wins.

The football team had a season record of 12-2, securing the titles of Trans-Valley League champions, Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 champions, and runner up in the CIF NorCal Division 3-AA state competition. The team also had the distinction of being named the CalHiSports number one Small School Team in the State of California.

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team was recognized for multiple tournament championship wins including the Ben Holt Academy Tournament, the Escalon Lions Club Tournament, and the Johansen Girls Tournament, solidifying their position as basketball champions.

“Sports offer our high school students an opportunity to excel through hard work, dedication and discipline,” commented Supervisor Rickman, whose Fifth Supervisorial District includes the City of Escalon. “These students will remember these moments and championships for the rest of their lives, and I believe that we should recognize their excellence as an example for all San Joaquin County residents. Escalon High is a sports powerhouse, and I was proud to meet and speak with the team captains and coach and share how proud we are of what they have accomplished this season.”

The team captains and coaches were honored at the beginning of the regular meeting of the Board of Supervisors, given certificates of recognition and posed for pictures with Supervisor Rickman in the Board chamber and his district office. The full Board offered their congratulations, accolades and commended the team for its dedication and success, thanking Supervisor Rickman for bringing these high school champions in for recognition.
