Several cross country runners from Escalon put on the racing bibs one final time this season, suiting up for the Cross Country Section Meet hosted at Folsom High School on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Victoria Calderon ran the varsity girls race as an individual qualifier for Escalon.
“Victoria did well, she may not have gotten the placement she wanted, but she did run faster than last year with a time of 23:30,” said head coach Arend Jones. “It was just way more competitive this year, last year only one girl ran sub-20 minutes, this year, six girls ran sub-20.”
Calderon finished 59th overall in the 5k varsity girls race for Division 4.
Escalon’s freshman boys placed fourth as a team in the 2.1-mile race, paced by Alexander Girardi with a time of 13:04, good for 13th place overall.
“Frosh/soph girls placed third as a team,” added Jones. “Sophomore boys placed fifth as a team.”
Brooklynn Sparacino was first for Escalon in the frosh/soph girls race, turning in a time of 17:33 and taking 17th overall. Kenneth Vargas was 23rd overall for the sophomore boys, first across the line for Escalon with a time of 14:10.
