Cross country squads keep up fast pace
COUGAR

At the second Trans-Valley League meet of the season, the Escalon girls got the better of rival Ripon Christian, just edging them out, said head coach Arend Jones. The boys, however, had a setback with one of their top runners out during the week and a second that suffered an injury.

“But otherwise, everyone ran well, nearly all the varsity runners had a personal record set that day,” Jones said.

Top varsity girl for Escalon was Victoria Calderon with a time of 22:41; top varsity boy was Alexander Girardi with a time of 19:20. At the JV girls level, Brooklyn Sparacino turned in the top time of 18:28 and top JV boy was Kenneth Vargas at 14:21.

“This coming Saturday the team has a special training day in Santa Cruz and then a week later another competition in Hughson for the Supercross,” added Jones.

The squads will then close out the league season with the TVL final being hosted in Sonora on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
