Three games over four nights proved to be a tough schedule for Escalon’s varsity flag football team, as the girls dropped all three non-league contests.

They were playing at home, where they lost to Gregori, Lathrop and Livingston.

Game one was on Monday, Aug. 26 and was a 12-point loss.

“It was frustrating; we had a 50/50 call go against us for six points and we dropped a touchdown pass so we felt those 12 points were unfortunately left out on the field for us,” explained head coach Steve Largent.

Hosting Lathrop on Wednesday, Aug. 28, it was another loss for the varsity squad.

“We had a tough time finishing drives with no points to show for it in four trips inside the 10-yard line,” Largent said of his team. “It was a game we felt we probably should have won but just didn’t make the stops and plays when it mattered the most.”

Thursday, already with two games played for the week, Escalon welcomed in a very experienced and talented Livingston team.

“Livingston knocked us out in the first half and took advantage of us not being our best,” Largent said of the lopsided 45-18 loss. “We had a better second half and found the end zone three times but it was a very tough end of the week for our defense.”

Captains Mia Arteaga and Jasmine Barron caught multiple touchdown passes during the week and sophomore Rebecca Wampler chipped in with two touchdowns on the ground.

Senior Alondra Gonzalez scored her first touchdown of the year as well.

“Trans-Valley League play starts September 23,” Largent explained. “So, a few more weeks of facing some bigger schools, a tough schedule but we believe it will make us very prepared for the TVL season.”. “It was a game we felt we probably should have won but just didn’t make the stops and plays when it mattered the most.”
