The final two matches of the regular season were on the schedule this past week for Escalon’s varsity golf girls.
They faced off against Ripon on Oct. 10 at Jack Tone Golf Course. Final was Ripon 156, Escalon 182.
Leading the team was Genevieve Casazza, who carded a 41 on the day, followed by Elizabeth Allan at 43. Cortney Ball also had a solid match with a score of 46; Rose Percey rounded out the scoring four with a 52.
Coming in with identical 67s were Olivia Aceves and Kamille Thomas.
“Playing Ripon is always a tough match up,” admitted head coach Chris Casazza. “They have a group of really solid golfers and consistently put up great scores. They are undefeated in TVL play.”
The coach noted, though, that his team seemed a little more comfortable on the course this time out.
“Our girls were able to produce quality scores that were an overall improvement over the last time we played at Jack Tone, which was in non-league play against Ripon Christian,” Casazza said.
Thursday, the girls were on their home course in Escalon and battled visiting Livingston, falling by a 174-182 final.
Casazza carded a 43, Ball and Samantha Bruns each had a 46 and Taylor Bruns added a 47. Percey had a 50 on the day, with Isabelle Titsworth carding a 74.
“We lost our final league head-to-head match by eight strokes,” explained Casazza. “Although we were defeated, it was again by ten or fewer strokes. I will continue to say, as I have all season, I am encouraged that most of our losses have been by ten or fewer strokes. We are a young squad with no seniors and only three juniors. With the progress and improvement that we have made this season, and the fact that we will not be losing any girls to graduation, I am hopeful and am looking forward to next season. I feel like some great things could happen next season, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
The girls were slated to close out the TVL campaign on Monday, Oct. 16 at Manteca Park Golf Course for the 18-hole TVL Year-End Tournament. Escalon, Hilmar, Hughson, Livingston, Ripon and Riverbank were all scheduled to compete.
“Also, our team will be partnering with Escalon Strong to operate the snack bar at Hogan Park during the Escalon Rec Flag Football season,” Casazza said. “We will be working to earn money to bring back a PGA professional for multiple instructional sessions during practices next season.”
