Young football players – both boys and girls – were put through the paces this past week, as they met for two days of intense instruction.
Hosted Tuesday and Wednesday, June 18 and 19 on the campus of Escalon High School, the football camp was staged on the varsity and JV soccer fields.
Officials said 150 kids signed up to participate, including 25 girls looking to get into flag football, which is now a fall sport offered at Escalon.
“It was great to have the high school football players and girls flag football players running most of the drills and competitions,” noted Escalon High School Athletic Director and varsity football head coach Andrew Beam.
The student leaders from the high school programs wore their EHS jerseys during both days of camp. Several adult coaches were also in attendance to offer guidance.
“We try to provide a variety of drills and competitions,” Beam added. “This year we did a ‘Punt, Pass, and Kick’ competition for each age group and the winner of those groups was awarded Escalon Camper of the Day and given a high school shirt.”
The camp ran from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. both days, and was open to incoming third through eighth grade students. The young athletes were able to get their workouts in at camp before the heat of the afternoon kicked in.
