Split of league games for varsity basketball girls

Playing both games this past week on the road, the first went on the books as a loss for Escalon’s varsity basketball girls while they rebounded nicely to get a win in game number two.

“We headed to Sonora on Tuesday night (Jan. 7) and got beat 41-33,” said head coach Joseph Dalpogetti. “We led by seven right away and then it was like a lid was placed on the basket. We still led 19-17 at the half but we couldn’t do anything right in the second half.”

The host Lady Wildcats used that to their advantage to pull away and get the win, with Sonora now part of the Trans-Valley League.

“We shot 12 of 65 from the floor including four of 30 from the three-point line,” Dalpogetti explained. “We also battled foul trouble.”

Madi Babasa and Ari Velasco combined for just eight points on the night – both are averaging about 17 points per game.

“We bounced back with a nice win over Hilmar on Friday, 45-24,” added Dalpogetti. “We led 37-9 with about a minute to go in the third before getting everyone a good amount of minutes. Madi and Ari combined for 29 points.”

The girls were scheduled to host Hughson on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and have a league bye on Friday.
